Rosedene

In 1930, my great-grandparents, Henry and Martha, bought a dairy farm in north central Wisconsin. Rosedene Guernsey Farm raised cattle, vegetables, and four children, including my Grandpa Lloyd. He married my Grandma Dorothy in 1948, and together, they brought up five children of their own: my two uncles, two aunts, and my mother.

When I began my journey as a self-published author and freelance editor, I wanted to pay homage to their legacy, and in 2023, Rosedene Publishing was born.

About Me

Growing up, I spent most of my summers devouring every book I could get my hands on, and when that wasn't enough, I turned to writing my own. That led to an extended sojourn into the world of language, from which I've only partially returned. I was the kid who read the grammar textbook because I thought it was interesting. I bought French and Spanish phrasebooks at my Scholastic Book Fairs. I even invented a few of my own langauges. Then in 6th grade I discovered Tolkien, and it all went up/downhill from there.

As an adult, I've continued to develop those passions as an English teacher and indie author. I still read textbooks (and dictionaries) for fun, and I spend a lot of time researching things like the history of the semicolon (thank you, Aldus Manutius!) in my spare time. But at heart, I'm still just what I've always been: a lover of words and stories.

My Approach

I have always been fascinated by the use of language to convey complex ideas and moods. I love how writers utilize their unique voices and styles to express their thoughts in distinctive ways. As an editor, my first goal is to help you tell your story in your own voice. I will help you correct and clarify, explain and emote—everything you need to make your style shine—without losing what makes your writing yours.

My strengths lie in line editing, especially when it comes to the teeny-tiny details. Does one word have a stronger connotation than another? Would a different punctuation mark enhance the mood of the scene? How would a line break or a reaction beat make a chunk of dialogue more dramatic? Have you already used a certain phrase elsewhere in the story? Let's mix it up to make it fresh!

What I Edit

My biggest interests are fantasy, historical fiction, poetry, and romance. YA and Adult are the age groups I have the most experience with, but I also dabble in MG for my students and my own children.

Unfortunately, due to an overactive imagination and a tendancy towards nightmares, I would not be a great fit for horror, thrillers, or anything with frequent or overly graphic depictions of violence.
